Moving to Europe from Uxbridge

The longest version of an outward move. Junction 16 of the M25 is minutes from the town, so a European load joins the orbital almost immediately and reaches the Kent crossings without ever entering London.

Four routes run often enough to warrant their own pages. Anywhere else in western Europe is an enquiry, and we answer it honestly.

The four routes we run

On these four we hold agents, know the entry formalities and send vehicles often enough to price them properly. Each page carries the road route, the regions we deliver into, and a document list divided between the rows you obtain and the rows we obtain.

How a European job runs from here

The opening is identical to a move to Ickenham: a survey, a measured volume, a written inventory. What changes afterwards is the status of that inventory — it becomes a document an official at a border will read, which is why the wording matters. "Twelve cartons, books" and "boxes" are not the same declaration.

The vehicle goes out to junction 16, round the orbital to the M20, and onto the Folkestone shuttle. From Calais the routes separate: east and south for Italy, straight down for Spain and Portugal, anywhere at all for France. The export declaration is raised before the terminal; the import entry is lodged at the far end against the same list.

Where holding fits

Overseas completions move, and they move more than domestic ones. So instead of letting the uncertain date govern everything, we collect on the certain one, list the goods and hold them. The export file is then assembled from a list that already exists. The storage page covers the detail.

Collecting beyond Hillingdon

A vehicle heading for a Kent crossing passes an enormous amount of the south-east on the way, so second pickups across west London and the Thames Valley are routine. When a European vehicle is already scheduled we will pick up consignments from London, Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Bristol as well. Moving from one of those rather than from Uxbridge? Say so and we will tell you honestly whether we are the right firm for it.

Two things we will not put in writing

A transit time before the route, the load and the vehicle arrangement are known. The truthful spread is enormous and a number we cannot stand behind is worth nothing — so the quote carries an estimated window for your own consignment instead. And a duty position, which depends on your residence status and your documents, so we set out the conditions rather than imply an outcome.

Questions about moving to Europe

Which countries do you run to?
France, Spain, Italy and Portugal on established road routes, each with its own clearing agent and its own page here. Elsewhere in western Europe — Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland — the same vehicles go, so ask. Where a destination is not routine for us we will say so rather than treat your move as practice.
Does starting from the edge of London actually help?
At the front of the journey, materially. Junction 16 is minutes away, so a load from here reaches the orbital without crossing the capital and without needing an emissions-compliant vehicle for the run out. For a firm starting in zone 2 that first hour is the least predictable part of the whole trip.
Dedicated vehicle or a shared load?
Dedicated means your goods alone, departing when you say. Shared means travelling with other consignments bound the same way: cheaper, and it leaves when the route is full. Immovable dates argue for dedicated; any flexibility usually makes sharing the better value.
Who assembles the customs paperwork?
We do, working from the inventory taken at your property and with an agent at the destination. The rows we cannot obtain are the ones tied to you personally — a tax number, a residence registration, a consular certificate. Each country page separates the two.
Can goods be held in Uxbridge before they travel?
Often, and it is the same arrangement we use on outward moves into the shires. Collect against the date that is certain, keep the goods listed, and build the export file from that list once the far end is confirmed.
Will you collect from a second address on the way?
Anywhere on the M25 or M40 corridor is effectively on the route, so usually yes. It has to be known when the load is planned rather than raised on the morning.

Where is it going?

Both addresses, a rough volume, and whether the far end has a date yet. We will come back with the route, the document list and a written quote.
